Addressing the icon in the room

If you have ever used Duolingo in the past couple of years, you might have noticed that sometimes, they decide to change the app's icon.

Sometimes it's funny, I'll admit. But most of the time it's very annoying.

I don't care if it's to catch my attention. When I download an app, I do not expect to suddenly change the icon unless I update it. And I certainly do not expect it to look so gross.

Naturally, I went looking for a solution to stop the app from doing this. Searched the app's settings menu, searched my phone's settings, looked it up on Google... Nothing.

Hell, they don't even have a minimal icon so using the minimal icon style also doesn't work.

A solution would be to install a third-party launcher and use a third-party icon pack. But most decent looking icon packs are paid, and I would prefer to keep using the stock Pixel Launcher.

Anyway, what other solution is there to this... oh right, the simplest one.

Deleting the app!

But sadly, I don't really know of any good alternatives for Duolingo, that also offer german as a language (currently learning when I have time).

I wonder, does anyone else know of any alternatives? Would be nice to know :)
